Successful participation of the Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster at Medica 2010

Date: 24-11-2010

Place: Düsseldorf

The Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster, which gathers major public and private actors in the field of Health Sciences and Technologies in Luxembourg, has participated for the first time in the world’s largest medical fair, MEDICA 2010 (17-20/11/2010) in Dusseldorf.

The 2010 edition of MEDICA has attracted about 137.200 visitors who received information about innovations in in-patient and out-patient care from more than 4 400 exhibitors representing 64 nations, including Luxembourg. The Luxembourg stand, organised by the Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade has largely contributed to increasing the visibility of Luxembourg as a health technology innovator. This key message was amplified by the BioHealth Cluster, which disseminated information on the National Strategy developed to achieve excellence in molecular diagnostics, the cornerstone of personalized medicine, and informed visitors about the expertise and activities of the Cluster members.

Companies and Cluster actors, including Alkomdigital S.àr.l., Dupont de Nemours S.àr.l., the Integrated BioBank of Luxembourg, Lion Systems S.A. and Monitor-it S.A ., were also present on the stand and demonstrated the creativity, and diversity that Luxembourg actors have achieved in medical innovation and business development.

By participating at the Medica fair, the Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster was able to identify new business opportunities for its members and to position Luxembourg as an attractive location for Healthcare Research Development and Innovation.

The high added value of the contacts made by the Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster is a first indication of its successful participation in MEDICA. Just three days after the fair, a meeting was organised between the Manager of the Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster and a company active in the medical device sector, which is interested in locating its European activities in Luxembourg.
