SafeSciMET course: Biomolecular analysis: From method development to clinical

Date: from 30-01-2012 to 03-02-2012

Address: BioMolecular Analysis Group Faculty of Sciences, VU University De Boelelaan 1083

ZIP: 1081 HV

City: Amsterdam

Country: Netherlands

This course is part of the programme developed under the Innovative Medicines Initiative, SafeSciMET, a public-private partnership between the European pharmaceutical industry (EFPIA) and European academia. All courses will have a mixed faculty of scientists from academia and industry and utilise case studies from industry. Courses are planned for the coming 2 years all over Europe.

The course will focus on Biomolecular analysis: From method development to clinical. It will cover the following themes:

  • Physico-chemical parameters at the basis of method development
  • Bioanalytical strategies for small molecules: sampling, sample pretreatment, separation, detection, validation and data handling.
  • General consideration in bioanalytical strategies for biopharmaceuticals
  • PK, PD, and biomarker assay formats
  • Development of immunogenic assay strategies: background, assay strategies, predictive immunogenicity
  • Integrated bioanalytical assay strategies
  • Novel developments: therapeutic oligonucleotides, reactive drug metabolites, profiling of body fluids and metabolomics

The courses can be taken individually. Fee per course is €2,500 – 750 (dependent on category of student) with discount schemes for multiple courses. The courses meets the criteria for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) diplomas and they will be part of a forthcoming European Master of Advanced Safety Science Degree.
