Science Park and Bioincubator

Science parks are largely recognised as key elements to sustain research based development at local level by contributing to the strengthening of the existing infrastructures and increasing their visibility and attractivity. The incubation infrastructures and added-value services they provide to local firms reinforce networking effects that enable them, in that sense, to act as strong complementary tools to clustering processes.

In line with its knowledge-based diversification strategy, Luxembourg has launched a €650-million initiative to build a new science park named “La Cité des Sciences, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation”, which also represents a large restructuring of brownfield sites located in Southern Luxembourg, at Belval. With a total estimated long term surface area of 47.5 hectares, this Science park will host the new campus of the University of Luxembourg, the LCSB and other Public Research Organisation facilities.

A brand new incubation facility adapted to the specific needs of life-science start-ups is expected to be operational in the third quarter 2012 and will be located in close vicinity to the new Science Park. This Health Tech incubator, launched under the form of a Public Private Partnership, will be supported by a dedicated management team that will be involved in both business coaching and technology transfer related activities.
