The Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster brings together 23 public research laboratories and 11 private laboratories and companies active in the field of health sciences and technologies. Its aim is to stimulate innovation-generating partnerships and collaborations mainly in the fields of molecular diagnostics, which is a fundamental element in the personalised medicine approach.
Within the framework of the new governance approach, the cluster has set up a steering committee of 17 representatives of private companies as well as public and private research institutes and organisations.
During 2010, Luxinnovation’s activities for the BioHealth Cluster can be resumed as follows:
- Establishment of a database with approximately 400 contacts belonging to 200 actors of the sector (public and private laboratories, hospitals, producers and distributors of medical equipment as well as orthopaedic and chirurgical prostheses
- Consolidation of the sector-related orientation of the cluster and centralisation of its activities in the field of personalised medicine in order to strengthen the National Strategy of Health Sciences and Technologies and capitalise on opportunities for national and international partnerships and collaborations contributing to the development of the biotechnologies and health sector in Luxembourg
- Organisation of the “Infrastructures” working group in order to contribute to the identification of strengths and weaknesses in the Luxembourg context for the development of the biotechnologies and health sector and writing of a reflection document with recommendations of actions to undertake in order to make Luxembourg attractive for companies that are active in this field
- Organisation of two networking events bringing together approximately 40 actors in the sector
- Participating at the common Luxembourg stand organised by the Ministry of the Economy and Foreign Trade in the framework of the international forum “Medica” (Germany) with the aim of promoting the activities of Luxembourg actors in the health sciences and technologies field as well as of promoting Luxembourg as an attractive location for companies in the biotechnologies and health sector
- Support to the organisation of the participation of the cluster and its members at the Luxembourg Commercial Week at the World Expo in Shanghai and the presentation of the cluster’s activities
- Presentation of public research activities in the health sciences and technologies field at the Forum “Business meets Research”
- Presentation of European RDI funding opportunities in the healthcare-biotech field during the FP7 Week
In 2010, Luxinnovation disseminated 14 technology offers and requests
to actors in the biotechnologies and health sector, resulting in 6 expressions of interest
and 3 contacts initiated.
